Silent Observer

I was in a corridor between an overgrown field and, well another overgrown field. It is the place where I have spotted the Blue Grosbeak couple many times. I have also seen a Hairy Woodpecker, Great Crested Flycatcher, Eastern Phoebe and various other species in that zone. Birds flit from one side of the mowed corridor to the other, and the open space illuminates them for my observation – if only for a moment.

I was looking to my left trying to film a little, brown bird in a thicket. I suddenly had the feeling that I should look to my right. And, what I saw was two brown ears. But, then she moved slightly into my view. It was a White tailed deer standing just about 20 feet away from me. I can’t say how long she had been silently observing me.

She was such a lovely animal. Our encounter lasted for several minutes, and I never actually saw her walk away because I turned my attention back to a bird that flew into my line of sight. When I looked back, she was gone. I wish her well.

  1. What a great capture of the deer. I have seen them stand silently in the woods observing me as I passed. They are such beautiful animals.
