While filming the little birds that come to my office patio feeder, I caught a glimpse of this beautiful, juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk.
This bird and his parents make a living on our property. They have a nest in a large tree quite near the pond.
The adult Red shouldered hawks have a much darker colored chest than this bird’s mostly white chest. That characterizes him as a juvenile.
I have been aching to get a decent photo of one of these majestic birds for a long while. I was not expecting him to land in a tree about 200 feet away on a sunny day while I was sitting behind my camera on a tripod! I feel fortunate that he chose to roost in a bare tree in direct site of my location.
